The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard shoots its way into theaters this weekend. The action fest will have to move quick as Vin Diesel & Co. explode on the scene in one week with F9. The latest Fast & Furious franchise entry is one of the Summer’s most awaited films, according to Fandango.
While The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard isn’t as high profile as F9, it does bring a stellar cast. Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas lead the way. Here is the story:
The world’s most lethal odd couple — bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) — are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman (Antonio Banderas). Joining in the fun and deadly mayhem is Morgan Freeman as… well, you’ll have to see.
This is a sequel to the 2017 The Hitman’s Bodyguard, also starring Ryan Reynolds. Furthermore, the first entry made $176.6 million total at the box office. Opening weekend saw $21.3 million and Lionsgate would be thrilled at that. However, an opening frame in the $12 million-$15 million is looking more likely. That is based on the box office stats from last week.

What’s Next
All eyes continue to be on the newest Fast & Furious entry, F9, releasing June 25. That action fest is seen as the best barometer of the health of global cinema. We think July 9’s Black Widow will be just as important, though that will have a streaming option via Disney+ Premier Access. In fact, the Scarlett Johansson spy thriller is the #1 movie Fandango ticket buyers are most excited about.
