Let’s Preview the June 4 Weekend Movie Box Office

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is a new wide release movie this weekend. The latest chapter in The Conjuring universe follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they take on one of the most sensational cases of their careers. A cop stumbles upon a dazed and bloodied you man. Accused of murder, the suspect claims demonic possession as his defense, forcing the Warrens into a supernatural inquiry unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. Ed and Lorraine Warren are played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

Michael Chaves directs a story by James Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. In addition to writing, Wan produces with Peter Safran.

This chapter of the Conjuring story will also be available to stream at home on HBO Max.

Last weekend’s box office winner was A Quiet Place Part II. That horror thriller brought in $57 million on Memorial Day Weekend. Cruella, the runner up which also streamed on Disney+ Premier Access, racked up $26.5 million. Surpassing what A Quiet Place Part II did may be a tall order, but surpassing Cruella‘s opening weekend is expected.

Last week’s #5 movie in box office, Raya And The Last Dragon is now available to stream by all Disney+ subscribers this weekend.

This Weekend’s Family Entry

Spirit Untamed is a new film from DreamWorks Animation. The studio describes the story as:

An epic adventure about a headstrong girl longing for a place to belong who discovers a kindred spirit when her life intersects with a wild horse.

Spirit Untamed

AMC Theatres gave the first 250 lucky guests attending Spirit Untamed Friday a free collectible patch.

The animated film’s cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Julianne Moore, Isabela Merced, Andre Braugher and Eiza Gonzalez. Ennio Torresan and Elain Bogan direct.

Box office should be north of Raya’s $2.8 million last week but below Cruella’s near $27 million mark.

What’s Next

All eyes continue to be on the newest Fast & Furious entry, F9, releasing June 25. That action fest is seen as the best barometer of the health of global cinema. We think July 9’s Black Widow will be just as important, though that will have a streaming option via Disney+ Premier Access. In fact, the Scarlett Johansson spy thriller is the #1 movie Fandango ticket buyers are most excited about.
