IMAX Corporation is riding high this Summer, reporting second-quarter financial results that beat Wall Street expectations—and setting the stage for what could be a historic second half of 2026.
Driven by strong international growth and steady demand for premium large-format theater systems, the giant-screen pioneer continues to prove that audiences are still willing to leave their couches for a truly immersive cinematic experience.
By the Numbers: A Strong Second Quarter
For the quarter ending June 30, 2026, IMAX Corporation posted:
- Total Revenue: $102.8 million, up 12% year-over-year.
- Net Income: $15.9 million (or $0.27 per diluted share), marking a 35% jump from Q2 2025.
- Adjusted EPS: A record Q2 performance of $0.43 per share, beating consensus estimates handily.
- Global Box Office: $285 million—its best Q2 box office tally since 2019.
The quarter’s box office was powered by high-profile titles including the Michael Jackson biopic Michael ($69 million in IMAX), Star Wars entry The Mandalorian & Grogu ($42 million), and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie ($39 million).

Beyond movie tickets, IMAX’s Technology Products and Services division expanded rapidly, delivering 38 system installations during the quarter—the highest Q2 total for the company in a decade.
The Christopher Nolan Effect
While Q2 numbers painted a bright picture, much of the buzz during IMAX’s earnings announcement centered on the current quarter—specifically Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster, The Odyssey.

Filmed entirely with IMAX film cameras, The Odyssey scored a record-breaking $52 million IMAX opening weekend (across markets where it has launched so far), accounting for an astonishing 20% of the film’s total global box office footprint.
“As we enter the second half of 2026, Christopher Nolan’s breathtaking The Odyssey… is emerging as a transformational event for IMAX,” said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. “In its debut, The Odyssey achieved the biggest IMAX opening weekend of all time in like-for-like markets.”
With major key markets like China, Japan, and South Korea set to open The Odyssey in August and September, and roughly $60 million already locked in via advance presales, IMAX expects the film’s theatrical run to break further network records.
What’s Next for the Giant Screen?
The momentum doesn’t stop with Nolan. IMAX’s second-half slate features a heavy-hitting lineup of event cinema, including:
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- Tom Cruise’s action vehicle Digger
- An exclusive theatrical window for Netflix’s high-profile Cliff Booth project
- Denis Villeneuve’s anticipated Dune: Part Three, which—like The Odyssey—was shot with IMAX film cameras and will receive a specialized 15/70mm film release.
With strong liquidity ($551 million available) and ongoing global expansion, IMAX continues to solidify its position as the ultimate venue for blockbuster filmmaking.
