The launch dethroned Sony’s long-running blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, ending its six-week streak at the top spot.
Directed by Susanne Bier and starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, the film lands 28 years after the 1998 original. Playing to an eager audience built over decades of cult-classic status, the film averaged $7,236 per screen.
After dominating the summer charts, Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to second place in its seventh weekend. To be clear, the latest Spider-Man film took in $8,400,000 across 3,303 theaters. That’s a 54% decline from the previous frame. The superhero title has now accumulated a massive $935,171,000 domestically.
The Odyssey Continues Making History
In third place, Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey added $7,400,000 in its ninth weekend, crossing the milestone threshold with a cumulative domestic total of $600,507,000. Furthermore, the Tenet director’s epic continues to set records. The Odyssey is Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing film of all time.

Angel Studios’ faith-based thriller Runner secured fourth place with a $6,678,693 opening weekend from 2,568 locations. Meanwhile, Falling Forward Films’ hybrid feature Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the top five, pulling in $6,239,384 in its third frame for a cumulative domestic tally of $47,764,302.
