CNN Announces New White House, Congressional Roles and Political Anchors

Here are changes CNN announced this week in regards to new Washington, DC based anchor roles:

Abby Phillip will take over anchor duties of Inside Politics Sunday with Abby Phillip. The show airs 8-9am/ET Sundays, effective January 24. Phillip will also serve as the network’s senior political correspondent.

Phillip covered the 2020 presidential election. She joined CNN in 2017 to cover the Trump administration and served as White House Correspondent through 2019.

Dana Bash was named co-anchor of CNN’s Sunday morning “newsmaker” show. That will now be titled “State of the Union with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash”. Tapper and Bash will each anchor two Sundays a month. This is effective January 24.

John King, CNN’s chief national correspondent, will continue to host Inside Politics with John King each weekday 12-1pm/ET.

Jim Acosta was named anchor and chief domestic correspondent. More details on his weekend anchoring duties are forthcoming.

Wolf Blitzer, Courtesy of CNN

Wolf Blitzer continue to anchor his The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. It will air 6-7pm/ET nightly. Expect to see him in a principal anchor role for major breaking news.

The Lead with Jake Tapper will expand to 4-6pm/ET each night. Jake Tapper will co-anchor State of the Union Sundays. He will be CNN’s lead anchor for major Washington events.

Pamela Brown becomes anchor of CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays 6-9pm/ET. Brown will also be CNN’s senior Washington correspondent.

New White House and Congressional Correspondent Assignments

These are effective January 20.

White House

New Chief White House correspondent is Kaitlan Collins.

Senior White House correspondent is Phil Mattingly. Other White House correspondents are Arlette SaenzJeremy DiamondJohn Harwood, MJ Lee and Kate Bennett .

White House reporters are Kevin Liptak and Jasmine Wright.

Chief national affairs correspondent is Jeff Zeleny. He will also cover year one of the Biden-Harris White House.

Joe Johns remains senior Washington correspondent but will focus on a variety of Washington-related stories.

Suzanne Malveaux continues as national correspondent; Sunlen Serfaty becomes Washington correspondent covering DC at large.

CNN’s chief Congressional correspondent is Manu Raju. Capitol Hill correspondents are Jessica DeanLauren Fox and Ryan Nobles. Daniella Diaz is Capitol Hill reporter.
