Google says this week’s virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Galaxy Unpacked were showcases of new tech products with “the best of Google built in”.
The relationship with Samsung is such that Google SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer appeared (pictured here) as part of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event this week.
Galaxy S21 Ultra
The newly introduce Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will come with “a more cohesive Android experience and updates that make it easier to stay in touch with friends and family”.
Google Duo can now be mirrored from your Galaxy phone to to your Samsung TV. That integration will lead to superior video calls.
Google’s Discover feed will now be a swipe away from your Galaxy phone’s home screen. Google’s TalkBack screen reader will also be loaded. That will help users with blindness or trouble seeing their displays by allowed them to use spoken feedback and gestures to navigate the phone.
Samsung Smart Home
Google says they are working with Samsung to be able to control Nest devices (like thermostats) from Samsung’s SmartThings app on Galaxy smartphones and tablets. SmartThings will even be available within Android Auto, starting next week. Think about pulling in your driveway and controlling your home’s lights through Android Auto.
Lenovo
Lenovo’s family friendly Tab P11 will come with “Kids Space from Google”. That is a new kids mode featuring apps, books and videos to assist kids age nine and under in learning and having fun.
Google at Home
Google mentioned several other integrations:
- Google TV will be available this year on Sony and TCL smart TVs
- LG TVs from 2019 onward ca n be controlled by Google enabled smart speakers
- Verizon Fios set top box integration is coming “soon”
- One one one and group calls with the Duo app on Samsung TV
- New connected lights from LIFX, Nanoleaf and Yeelight now work with Hey Google.
- You’ll be able to say “Hey Google” to control Smart MEDION’s vacuum cleaner MD 19601.
