Selena Gomez Decries Facebook Leadership

Selena Gomez has been critical of social media CEOs recently. Just last month, after protests turned violent at the U.S. Capitol, the music artist had enough. She took the executives of Facebook, Twitter and Google to task for allowing people with “hate in their hearts” to use their platforms.

Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg

Selena called out Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg today. She wonders how “misinformation connected to Covid on @Facebook” continues. She firmly believes that type of misinformation “is going to lead to even more deaths. Mark Zuckerberg and @SherylSandberg – how does this continue to happen??”

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s Instagram (owned by Facebook) account was banned for “repeatedly sharing debunked claims about the coronavirus or vaccines” Kennedy is the son of former Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.

Kennedy says he was “deplatformed without advanced notice.” Kennedy is founder and chairman of Children’s Health Defense. He said “every statement I put on Instagram was sourced from a government database, from peer-reviewed publications and from carefully confirmed news stories. None of my posts were false.”

We can expect Selena to continue speaking out on this issues regarding hate and disinformation on social media.

Meanwhile, Selena has been keeping busy. She has new episodes of Selena+Chef out on HBO Max.

Her next album, Revelación, is available for pre-order from Target. It is coming in March 2021.
