Additional AMC Theaters Re-Open Tonight, Some Without Food or Drinks

Additional AMC Theaters re-open tonight in the United States. The Bob Odenkirk action film Nobody is leading the way as the biggest new option this weekend. As Odenkirk remarked last month, “If you love action, you’ll love ” Nobody.

The Illya Naishuller directed film is scoring an impressive 81% Rotten Tomatoes score as of Friday afternoon. BoxOfficePro is projecting an estimated $4 million-$9 million opening this weekend. Of course, we are still living the COVID-19 pandemic, but the available box office will increase tonight. So, BoxOfficePro projects this weekend’s top ten films will increase 10%-25% from last weekend’s $15.5 million top ten total box office.

Bob Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell in Nobody, directed by Ilya Naishuller.

For example, Montgomery County in Maryland, a large Washington DC suburb, is allowing theaters to re-open this weekend at 25% capacity, “provided they do not sell or permit food for consumption at the facility.”

Looking at AMC’s biggest theater in Montgomery County, AMC DINE-IN Rio Cinemas 18 gives us some data points for the weekend. This recently renovated movie palace has Dine-In Delivery to Sear, Coca-Cola Freestyle and a MacGuffins Bar. None of those will be operating tonight due to the local government mandates. So, it is impressive to see all three PRIME at AMC showings of Nobody sold out for today. (PRIME at AMC offers reverberating seats, surround sound and clearer images, according to AMC.) The 8pm Dine-In Delivery to Seat showing is also sold out already tonight. Of course, there will be no Dine-In Delivery this weekend allowed at this Gaithersburg, Maryland theater.

AMC’s Safe & Clean practices will be in full effect and masks will be required. In certain areas, such as Montgomery County, masks must be worn at all times. Therefore, food and drink are not allowed.
