Greg Gutfeld’s new late night Fox News Channel show got off to a strong start. The debut week of Gutfeld! topped NBC’s venerable Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in total viewers. Gutfeld! averaged 1,570,000 viewers compared to 1,378,000 for Jimmy Fallon’s program.
The new Fox News show also outpaced Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Conan on TBS.
According to Nielsen data, Gutfeld! also outpaced every CNN program in total viewers and the key demo. It also topped every MSNBC program in the A25-54 demo except for The Rachel Maddow Show. Fox News is also celebrating the fact that their new show topped HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Last Week Tonight and CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden in total viewers and in the A25-54 demo.
All good news for Fox News Channel in this environment where their total day viewership was down 31% and total primetime declined 27% Q1 2021 vs. Q2 2020. March 2021 brought steep viewership declines for all three major cable news networks. However, MSNBC had the least declines of the set.
Gutfeld! may provide Fox News viewers some much needed humor amidst the daily grim news around the pandemic and politics.
