“Girl You Know It’s True” Is A New Milli Vanilli Documentary

MRC Non-Fiction announced its new project “Girl You Know It’s True,” a new documentary based on the career of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus. The duo are best known as Milli Vanilli. Luke Korem is directing and producing the project. Korem previously directed and produced “Dealt”, a SXSW award-winning doc.

Milli Vanilli became a worldwide sensation in the late 1980s. In 1987, German producer Frank Farian brought together Morvan and Pilatus to become pop duo Milli Vanilli. The partnership, mainly based on Morvan and Pilatus’ “youthful good-looks and hip dance moves”, produced one of the biggest hits of the decade – “Girl You Know It’s True.” The pair went on to win the Grammy for Best New Artist. They sold over 10 million records. Things went askew when it was revealed that the duo had lip-synched their album.

They lost their awards, finances and “dignity as artists”. Pilatus died from an alcohol and prescription drug overdose in 1998. The death was ruled accidental and the group’s comeback album was never released.

The new documentary promises never-before-seen footage, interviews with the actual singers and “exclusive access to surviving member Morvan”. MRC Non-Fiction believes that this is a cautionary tale that is more relevant now than ever in today’s fame obsessed culture.
