Rihanna Covers Vogue Italia; Launches Savage X Fenty Pride Collection

Rihanna is the cover star of the June 2021 ‘Do It Yourself’ issue of Vogue Italia. Creative Director Ferdinando Verderi is responsible for the cover artwork. The project was directed by the artist herself along with Jahleel Weaver.

Editor in Chief Emanuele Farneti writes:

“In recent years we have tried to use our cover in many different ways: with photography or illustrations, or even without images. However, we had never asked the protagonist to do everything by himself: pose, photograph, choose what clothes to wear. If there was a right moment for this new experiment, it could only be the DIY issue, and there could not be a better subject than Rihanna – so many times on the covers, but never like this time in the version in which she and only she chose to show oneself, without filters and mediations.”

Vogue Italia’s DIY issue its newsstands June 4. Part of the DIY spirit comes from this past year, Farneti writes:

“This is a year in which, closed at home, we have all learned to deal with ourselves and our manual skills, the importance of rediscovering small gestures, of taking care, preserving and if possible reusing, giving new life to things: a discarded fabric that becomes a dress, a cover that becomes a blank canvas. Fashion is no exception.”

Savage X Fenty Updates

Rihanna shared some shots of her modeling Savage X Fenty lingerie on June 1.

The ‘Umbrella’ singer’s Savage X Fenty brand also launched its first ever Pride Collection this week.

Elle Magazine says the Pride collection features 25 new pieces, each catering to and in celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community in honor of Pride Month. The brand is featuring 13 models from the LGBTQIA+ community. Elle says “the result is an astounding collection of full-color portraits in which queer individuals, decked out in Savage X Pride intimates and jackets, openly celebrate their bodies.”

“Pride is all about appreciating your authentic self. I am very excited about this collection and showing love and support to the LGBTQIA+ community, which includes so many of our customers, team members and fans.”
