Dave Portnoy Launches Barstool Athletes Inc.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy launches Barstool Athletes Inc. today. Adelaide Halverson is the first NCAA athlete signed by the new marketing firm. Furthermore, Halverson is a Jacksonville State University volleyball player. In short, the NCAA Division 1 athlete reached out to Portnoy for the opportunity via DM. Consequently, the Barstool Founder like the idea and launched the new agency today.

To clarify, athletes who would like to join Barstool Athletics Inc. should fill out an online form. In short, Portnoy shared the link in a tweet Friday morning in an effort “to get organized today.”

NCAA Name, Image and Likeness Policy

NCAA college athletes have the opportunity to benefit from their name, image and likeness, beginning today. This is based on a new interim policy adopted by the NCAA. The temporary policy will remain in place until federal legislation or new NCAA rules are adopted.

“This is an important day for college athletes since they all are now able to take advantage of name, image and likeness opportunities. With the variety of state laws adopted across the country, we will continue to work with Congress to develop a solution that will provide clarity on a national level. The current environment — both legal and legislative — prevents us from providing a more permanent solution and the level of detail student-athletes deserve.”

Portnoy’s new agency will be considered a “professional services provider for NIL activities” under the new rules.

The first Barstool Athlete, Addie Halverson just had her best hitting season percentage-wise with a .223 clip. Furthermore, the Gamecock helped JSU capture its second-straight conference championship. The Chicago White Sox fan finished the season with 28 digs and five blocks.

In a Twitter post today, Portnoy reported that his new entity “is short staffed and being overrun with applications.” However, the Barstool founder had added several athletes to his roster. Villanova basketball point guard Collin Gillespie is among the newly signed.

Meanwhile, other stars signed include:

  • Maddie Olsen – Eastern Michigan State Soccer
  • Kevin Kopps – Arkansas Baseball
  • Ezra Dickerson – LSU Swimmer
