We Look At GETTR, a New Social Media Platform Officially Launching July 4

The GETTR social media platform officially launches July 4. However, the social app is available to download now on Apple and Android devices. The new social site’s website is also up and running now. GETTR describes itself as “a non-bias social network for people all over the world”.

GETTR highlights features like posting, reposting, comments, image/video editor and news sharing. Moreover, it is very similar to Twitter.

Here is a look at the “Trending” topic section. We had to remove a few offensive trending topics.

GETTR Trending Topics, Friday July 2 Morning

Clicking on search results for the #heatwave hashtag brought up tagged posts. However, very few actually dealt with the heatwave topic. Scrolling through several pages reveal no mentions of weather, the U.S. heatwave or the climate. This is an area that GETTR needs to refine further. Better curation is key.

One popular suggested profile is @DailyNews. That shows around 6,500 followers as we went to press Friday morning. Again, the profiles mirror Twitter closely with tabs for posts, replies, media and “liked” posts.

Former Trump advisor, Jason Miller, told Fox News that new platform is called “GETTR” because it evolved from the idea of “getting together.” Furthermore, Miller says the site will launch 10am/ET on Sunday, July 4. According to Fox News, Miller is “CEO of the company.”

To differentiate from Twitter, GETTR allows longer posts. A post on GETTR can be as long as 777 characters. Videos can be up to 3 minutes. Furthermore, videos can be edited on the platform. To appeal to Twitter users, one can import their tweets into GETTR, according to Miller.

Users will be able to “tip” prominent content creators on the platform. Miller says prominent influencers will therefore be able to monetize their posts. Furthermore, live streaming is coming.

No word on whether former President Donald J. Trump will join. However, Miller told Fox News that “realDonaldTrump is waiting for him and ready to go.”
