CNBC host Jim Cramer launched a new mezcal brand, Fósforo. Furthermore, the “Mad Money” host has partnered with his wife Lisa Detwiler on this venture. Mariana Hernández leads mezcal operations and has put Puebla on the map as a leading mezcal region.
Cramer has tasted “well over 200” different mezcal expressions from around Mexico. The result was a growing expertise in the complexity and nuances of this category. Finally, it led the “Squawk on the Street” anchor to create his own.
Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from agave, like tequila. According to Food & Wine, more than 30 varieties of agave are suitable for mezcal. Furthermore, tequila and mezcal come from different regions in Mexico. Both spirits age inside oak barrels after distillation. However, the aging categories differ.
For example, for their Tobalá Penca, Fósforo ages “the tobalá for up to three months in small glass carboys alongside a cooked agave penca slice, imparting a complex, savory flavor that is truly special.”
Here is video the brand has on Twitter showing the production process:
Via Twitter, Cramer stated that their process “is what sets our mezcal apart from any other you’ve tasted”. In addition, the stock expert shared that the Fósforo Tobalá and the Fósforo Tobalá Penca took Double Gold in the SF World Spirits 2022 Design Competition.
Cramer shared a photo celebrating the launch that included Villanova and Philadelphia Eagles great, Brian Westbrook.
Cramer has owns restaurants, including Bar San Miguel and The Longshoreman. To be clear, both establishments rate high. For example, Brooklyn’s Bar San Miguel currently has a 4.4 out of 5 on Google Maps. A covered patio is available for private events.
