In a move set to redefine the skyline of the National Capital Region, Sphere Entertainment Co. (NYSE: SPHR) announced today a partnership with the State of Maryland and Prince George’s County to bring a new Sphere venue to National Harbor.
This landmark project marks the second Sphere location in the United States and introduces a first-of-its-kind “smaller-scale” design model for the immersive entertainment giant.
A New Vision for the Potomac
While the original Las Vegas Sphere has become a global icon for its massive scale, the National Harbor venue will debut a more intimate, 6,000-seat configuration. Despite the smaller footprint, developers promise the same high-tech “wow factor” that has made the brand a household name.
The new venue will feature:
- The Exosphere: A signature exterior LED shell capable of displaying artistic and branded content to millions of passersby.
- 16K Interior Display: The world’s highest-resolution LED screen (16K x 16K) for fully immersive visuals.
- Advanced Sensory Tech: Sphere’s proprietary immersive sound system, haptic seating, and 4D environmental effects like wind and scent.

Economic Powerhouse
The project is more than just an architectural marvel; it is an economic engine. State and local officials project that the venue will generate over $1 billion in annual economic impact once operational.
The development is supported by approximately $200 million in state, local, and private incentives. In return, the region expects a massive influx of employment:
- 2,500 jobs during the construction phase.
- 4,750 permanent jobs once the doors open.

“This will be one of the largest economic development projects in Prince George’s County history,” said Maryland Governor Wes Moore. “This proves once again our state is the best place in the country to bring dreams to life.”
Big news for Maryland! 🌟 A new Sphere venue, a next-gen immersive entertainment destination, is planned for National Harbor. It’ll bring year-round experiences, jobs, and more economic activity to our state. Can’t wait to see what’s ahead! 🎶📍 #MarylandMomentum #NationalHarbor…

National Harbor’s Evolution
Located just 15 minutes from Washington, D.C., National Harbor already draws 15 million visitors annually. By adding the Sphere to its existing portfolio of gaming, dining, and convention spaces, local leaders believe the area will solidify its status as a premier global tourism hub.
“Our focus has always been on creating a global network of Spheres,” said James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment. He noted that the partnership with Maryland officials was key to bringing this “new experiential medium” to the East Coast.
