The Google Store Shelves the Pixelbook Go

Google’s Pixelbook Go laptop is no longer for sale, according to the company’s online store. Pixelbook Go was the Mountain View, CA company’s last first party Chrome OS device. To be clear, the device had a good run as it was introduced in October 2019. Furthermore, the Pixelbook Go was still available for purchase from Google through Fall 2023. In fact, we almost purchased the Intel Core i7 model with a 4K screen for testing in our PC lab in September 2023. While we let that edition slip through our fingers, the Intel Core m3 and i5 examples were still in stock during recent months.

Here’s how Google described the device in 2019:

At barely 2 lbs light and 13 mm thin with a distinctive grippable design, Pixelbook Go is your new travel partner. It’s ready to work anywhere with an ultra-quiet keyboard, up to 12 hours of battery life, and a quick 2-hour boost with just 20 minutes of charge. Oh, and the price is “lighter,” too.

The Pixelbook Go was a direct follow-up to 2017’s Pixelbook. While both units ran Chrome OS, there were some major differences between them. The Pixelbook Go has a more traditional laptop design with a clamshell form factor, featuring a ribbed bottom for better grip. Meanwhile, the original Pixelbook had a 2-in-1 convertible design, allowing it to be used as both a laptop and a tablet.

Here’s what the Pixelbook Go page at the Google store shows today:

YouTuber J. Williams recently posted a video praising his Pixelbook Go laptop: “Here we are in 2024 and this thing is still kicking strong.”

The laptop will have several more years of life, as Google reports it will receive software updates through August 2029. While rumors persist of a follow-up, nothing has materialized yet. Google does offer an excellent Pixel Tablet now. However, that device runs on Android and not Chrome OS. Chromebook fans may want to turn their attention to the latest laptops with the Chromebook Plus certification.
