Golden Ticket Cinema in Greenville, NC inaugurates its new IMAX screen this weekend with Joker: Folie à Deux. According to Golden Ticket, this will be the region’s first IMAX screen with “laser, immersive sound, and a massive wall-to-wall floor-to-ceiling screen!”
The theater also held a fan preview on September 30. The Joker sequel was screened in the IMAX with Laser experience. The IMAX auditorium also offers stadium seating, luxury rockers and immersive audio.
This location was previously the Greenville Grande Regal. According to WCTI12 News, the theater went through “an extensive remodel and multiple upgrades to provide an exceptional movie experience to customers.” Furthermore, an official ribbon cutting was held back in March 2024. The theater officially opened its doors March 1.
Reviews have been positive since opening in March. To be clear, adding IMAX should only enhance those reviews. Currently, the cinema averages 4.2 stars on Google.
Benefits of IMAX
- IMAX tickets are more expensive than regular movie tickets due to the format’s higher resolution and taller aspect ratio
- IMAX screenings are a top choice for audiences, and can drive more people to theaters. For example, Oppenheimer and Dune: Part 2 were marketed as must-see theatrical events, and both benefited from IMAX screenings.
- As of June 2024, over 14% of all box office ticket sales were for premium formats like IMAX, up from 10% in 2019
- Premium large formats, like IMAX, can help drive audience engagement and frequency. For example, 41% of the domestic box office for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes came from premium large-format screenings, with 13% of that coming from IMAX.
IMAX theaters are also built differently than traditional theaters, with rows closer to the screen and all rows typically within one screen height.
Golden Ticket
Golden Ticket Cinemas was founded in 2017 with a theater in Washington, North Carolina. The company reports being one of the top 50 theatre chains in the U.S. with 19 locations and 122 screens across 12 states.
