South Texas News Acquires Hood County News in Expansion Deal

South Texas News Inc. has expanded its footprint in local journalism with the acquisition of the Hood County News. The purchase includes its associated specialty publications, magazines, and digital properties, from Hyde Media Group, LLC.

The ownership transition took effect on October 1, 2026. Financial details and terms of the transaction were not publicly disclosed. Hyde Media Group will retain and continue operating its commercial printing facility.

The Hood County News serves as the primary weekly news source for Granbury and the broader Hood County area. Hyde Media Group, owned by local resident and attorney Paul Hyde, originally purchased the newspaper from Roberts Publishing Group as its flagship media enterprise. Under Hyde’s ownership and the leadership of publisher Sam Houston, the publication enhanced its print and digital offerings.

Albert Reynolds, founder and owner of South Texas News Inc., expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition. Reynolds notes that the newspaper aligns with the company’s commitment to community journalism across the state.

“I want to thank Kelli Bultena at Dirks, Van Essen & April for reaching out to me with this opportunity that fits perfectly into our portfolio of 11 local, small-town newspapers throughout Texas,” said Reynolds. “We look forward to continuing to serve the Hood County community and keeping local journalism going strong for decades to come.”

Reynolds launched the Beeville, Texas based South Texas News Inc. after a 20 year career at his hometown newspaper. Significantly, Reynolds acquired that paper along with several other regional titles in 2023. The addition of the Hood County News brings the group’s portfolio to 11 community news outlets.

Hyde Media Group was represented in the sale by Santa Fe-based media merger and acquisition firm Dirks, Van Essen & April.
