Kygo and Selena Gomez released “It Ain’t Me” on February 16, 2017. It was the first single off Kygo’s Stargazing EP and dropped before Selena’s “Bad Liar” in 2017.
The track spent 13 weeks on the Billboard charts. Its peak position was #7 on May 20, 2017. Kygo celebrated over 1 billion streams of the track on Spotify on September 9, 2020.
Writers on the track include Brian Lee, watt [Andrew Watt], Kygo, Ali Tamposi and Selena Gomez.
Tamposi chatted with Your EDM in 2017 about the inspiration behind the lyrics:
It’s a combination of our experiences – we act as if we’re therapists for one another. If I’m going through something, Andrew and Brian will be my therapists and we’ll tap into that place and vice-versa. We’ll ask questions about that experience and it usually goes from there. We’ll be like “What did it actually feel like when you’re at the bar and waiting for that person to call you and they’re not calling?” so it’s that type of vibe. It’s honest – everything that we write comes from past experiences that we’ve all felt. If it doesn’t come from that place, then it feels disconnected.

Remixes included Tiësto’s AFTR:HRS Remix, which was available in April 2017. That has 1.9 million streams on YouTube alone as of February 2021.
Kygo also released a mix in February 2017 with Vin Diesel’s vocals included. Vin wrote on Facebook: “Thank you Kygo for producing this 2017 HIT! Thank you for believing in me enough to ask me to sing. Thank you Selena Gomez for bringing that beautiful and magical voice. Pained and celebratory simultaneously. I followed your lead when I went into the booth…”
The official audio version on YouTube has 547 million views as of February 2021. The official video, which doesn’t feature Kygo or Selena Gomez, has 192 million views.
