AMC Theatres, the world’s largest theatrical exhibitor, achieved its highest domestic revenue ever for the pre-Thanksgiving weekend. To be clear, the chain says this record includes revenue from admissions, food, beverages, and merchandise.
Moviegoers Flock to Theatres
From Thursday to Sunday, AMC Theatres in the United States and ODEON Cinemas, AMC’s international subsidiary, welcomed 4.6 million moviegoers. The weekend’s success was driven by the strong opening weekends of “Wicked” and “Gladiator II.” Furthermore, ODEON Cinemas recorded its single-day revenue high in 2024 on Saturday, November 23.
WICKED Merchandise and Upcoming Singalongs
AMC’s merchandise programs continue to be a hit with guests, with Wicked collectibles virtually selling out by Sunday. This includes green and pink popcorn vessels and the 32-ounce Grippr Cup, both based on Wicked’s main characters, Elphaba and Glinda.

Comments from AMC Leadership
Adam Aron, AMC Chairman and CEO, expressed his delight:
“Naturally, we are pleased that at our U.S. theatres, AMC just recorded our highest revenues for a pre-Thanksgiving weekend in AMC’s entire history. Similarly, it is thoroughly satisfying that fully 4.6 million people graced our AMC Theatres in the U.S. and Odeon Cinemas abroad over the just completed four days Thursday to Sunday. What a wonderful way to head into what we expect will be a busy and entertaining holiday moviegoing season.”
“We extend our gratitude and congratulations to Jon M. Chu and our partners at Universal Pictures on WICKED’s success, and as well extend our gratitude and congratulations to Sir Ridley Scott and our partners at Paramount for the success of GLADIATOR II. Both films were expertly made, and brilliantly marketed to their audiences. This past weekend’s result is yet another demonstration that moviegoers want to see these films on the biggest screens, with the biggest sounds, and that theatrical exhibition is ready and able to support multiple blockbuster titles opening on the same weekend.”
Looking Ahead
AMC Theatres locations in the U.S. and around the world are gearing up for the busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The highly anticipated “MOANA 2” opens in U.S. theatres on Wednesday, November 27, and at ODEON Cinemas in the UK on November 29.
