Located in one of Northern Virginia’s flagship shopping destinations, AMC Tysons Corner 16 has long served as a premier moviegoing hub for the Washington, D.C. metro area.
As premium large format (PLF) options and immersive viewing technology continue to redefine the modern cinema experience, the venue is undergoing significant upgrades to keep pace with changing audience expectations and elevate the standard for local filmgoers.
Renovations Underway
Recent renovations at the multiplex have centered on expanding its suite of high-end, immersive projection and sound technologies. Highlights of the modernizations include the installation of IMAX with Laser and Dolby Cinema auditoriums, alongside Laser at AMC projection upgrades across standard screens for sharper brightness, enhanced contrast, and vivid color clarity.
The IMAX auditorium delivers the big screen experience you’d expect. But don’t forget the Dolby option. A recent showing of Digger in Dolby was spectacular at this theater. Expect a crystal clear screen and immersive Dolby Atmos sound.
Additionally, the addition of 4DX auditorium capabilities—incorporating synchronized motion seating and dynamic environmental effects—has transformed traditional viewings into fully sensory, interactive events.
A recent viewing of The Odyssey in 4DX at this theater was quite an experience. Certainly the epic turbulent seas made for a perfect 4DX test. Rocking seats and sprays of sea mist all put the audience into the journey. Guests in one row ahead were still able to complete their dinner meal despite the turmolt.
Complementing the auditorium technology, enhancements throughout the rest of the facility focus on overall guest comfort and convenience. From plush reserved seating and streamlined mobile food and beverage ordering to an expanded MacGuffins Bar menu, the updates reflect AMC’s strategy to position Tysons Corner 16 as an all-inclusive entertainment destination rather than just a place to watch a movie.
MacGuffins Bar Update
As of this weekend, the new MacGuffins Bar is taking shape. Specifically, bar furniture has arrived in addition to fixtures. Furthermore, bar lighting has been installed.
Competitive Market
These upgrades raise the bar in the local theater scene. LOOK Dine-In Cinema and CMX CineBistro Tysons Galleria are both newer offerings within a 5 minute drive from AMC Tysons Corner 16. While both offer bars, neither have IMAX nor 4DX. Furthermore, AMC’s new MacGuffins will be on par with the other two competitors.
CMX and LOOK both have elevated menus and delivery to your seat. That advantage will continue and is notable if you require a larger meal and service at your seat. AMC excels at popcorn, reliable Coke Freestyle drink machines and a good mix of pizza and other snacks. Furthermore, AMC, unlike LOOK or CMX, has a good offering of merch, including the latest popcorn buckets.
