Worth a Watch: Jessica Biel’s Limetown comes to Peacock

You may have missed Limetown when it premiered on Facebook Watch back in October 2019. The fictional drama featured Jessica Biel as an investigative journalist who tries to piece together the disappearance of over 300 people from a small town in Tennessee.

The drama has one season that lasts 10 episodes and is now available to stream on Peacock. Peacock is the new streaming service from NBCUniversal which is free to watch.

Biel’s producing partner, Michelle Purple, told Variety that Jessica was liked the story and her complicated character, Lia Haddock. Haddock is journalist who hosts the podcast that examines the disappearances.

“I think it’s exciting for her to try something different and to push herself and to scare herself and to see if she can go there and that’s sort of the parts she looks for and wants to create for herself.”, Purple told Variety.

The story touches on the impact of technology in our daily lives. “Especially because I have a child and children are growing up and iPads and tablets are part of their world,” Biel told Variety. “They know how to use these things; they get obsessed with these things and I think that scares me more than anything else.”

Biel told Entertainment Weekly that she thought the podcast was real and that was part of what hooked her.  “It was so well done that it got me! What can I say, it got me. But initially, I was so excited and turned on by the idea of this story [about] this technology and this woman who is on this relentless path to find the answers and find the truth. I just thought, God, what a crazy idea and something that is really very close to being a reality for us in our time right now. It felt topical, it felt terrifying, and it was just so well done and so smart,” Biel told Entertainment Weekly.
