Indiana’s North Vernon Plain Dealer & Sun Sold to Paxton Media

Paxton Media Group has acquired the North Vernon Plain Dealer & Sun. The newspaper serves Jennings County, Indiana. It was established in 1864 and was owned by the King family.

Barbara King headed the company since 1982. She says “Basically, it is time for me to retire. My husband John (Roche) and I have reached that point in our lives where we need to step back from the daily grind. And in the local newspaper business, that ‘daily’ is just about that — every day.”

Paxton Media Group is based in Paducah Kentucky. They own over 70 newspapers in the Midwest and Southeast, including 13 in Indiana.

Dirks, Van Essen & April represented the King family and first reported the sale February 8, 2021.
