Howard University has re-established their College of Fine Arts, now known as the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts. The announcement brings Boseman’s connection to the college full circle. His Facebook page mentions that the Black Panther actor protested the collapse of the College of Fine Arts. Boseman was a Howard student at the time.
The “21 Bridges” star retuned to the Washington, DC campus in 2018 as Commencement Speaker. Now, he returns in spirit with the new College of Fine Arts. Furthermore, Phylicia Rashad will serve as Dean of the new College of Fine Arts. The “Cosby Show” start is an alumna of Howard and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s in fine arts. Above all Rashad was professor and mentor to Boseman.
“It is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to work with the Howard University administration, faculty and students in reestablishing the College of Fine Arts,” said Rashad.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post reports that former Disney CEO Bob Iger “will oversee fundraising for an endowment named after ‘The Black Panther’ star and a new fine arts building.”
The Boseman Family Reacts
Boseman died in August 2020 at 43. Moreover, Variety reports that the Boseman family released a statement. “Chad fought to preserve the College of Fine Arts during his matriculation at Howard and remained dedicated to the fight throughout his career, and he would be overjoyed by this development,” the Boseman family said.
In addition, actor and fellow Howard Bison Ryan Jamaal Swain also reacted.
