Trinidad, Colorado’s Chronicle-News Is Sold to CherryRoad Media

The Chronicle-News, which has served Southeast Colorado and Northeast New Mexico since 1876, has new ownership. Owners Kim and Rich Hoffman and Kirk and Julie Loudon sold to CherryRoad Media.

You may recall, in October, CherryRoad bought 20 newspapers from Gannett. Furthermore, CherryRoad is relatively new on the newspaper scene. The Parisppany, New Jersey based firm entered the newspaper industry in late 2020.

“CherryRoad is excited to be the new owners of The Chronicle-News,” said Jeremy Gulban, CEO of CherryRoad Media, in a news release. “We are looking forward to working with the existing staff to continue the excellence in coverage of local news and events in Trinidad and surrounding areas. I want to thank Kim and Rich Hoffman and Kirk and Julie Loudon for entrusting us with the stewardship of this important community institution.”

Dirks, Van Essen & April, based in Santa Fe, represented Chronicle-News Media Group in the transaction. No financial terms have been disclosed.

The Hoffmans and Loudons owned the Chronicle-News for three years. They believe they turned the publication into a “truly local newspaper.” They are asking readers to welcome CherryRoad to the community “with open arms and open minds.”

The Chronicle-News is one of the oldest continuously published newspapers in Colorado.
