CherryRoad Media Adds Minnesota Newspapers

CherryRoad Media adds seven Minnesota newspapers to its lineup. The United States largest newspaper publisher, Gannett, sold the local titles to CherryRoad. The newspapers included in the deal are:

  • Granite Falls Advocate-Tribune
  • Montevideo American News
  • Redwood Falls Gazette
  • Crookston Times
  • Sleepy Eye Herald-Dispatch
  • St. James Plaindealer
  • Cottonwood Tri-County News

“CherryRoad is excited to be adding Crookston, Montevideo, Granite Falls, Cottonwood, Redwood Falls, Sleepy Eye, and St. James to the group of communities we serve. We look forward to continuing our investment in community journalism in Minnesota by building upon the work we have done over the past year in Grand Marais and International Falls. I wish to express my appreciation to Gannett for working with us on this opportunity.”

Jeremy Gulban, CEO of CherryRoad Media

Gannett continues to sell off local newspapers. Bernie Szachara, who leads Gannett’s U.S. publishing operations, recently told Poynter:

“Our mission is to empower communities, and our decisions are driven by our commitment to best serve them. Having been approached by prospective buyers, we’ve carefully considered what was best for both our company and the community, and we’re pleased that in several situations, a local owner will continue to lead these brands into the future.”

CherryRoad has been on newspaper buying spree recently. It acquired its first newspaper in November 2020, according to Dirks, Van Essen & April. That firm represented Gannett in the deal. Furthermore, CherryRoad operates newspapers in eight states. To be clear, those states include Arkansas, Alabama, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska.
