O’Rourke Media Group has acquired The Pagosa Spring SUN. The Colorado based SUN has offered a newspaper and tourism guides serving Archuleta County since December 9, 1909. The sale was announced in the September 7 issue of The SUN.

Terri House has owned the newspaper for 21 years. House started working at the newspaper as a class project when she was 15 years old.
“One common theme throughout Jim’s company’s newspapers is commitment to community,” House, who has owned the paper for 21 years and been in the business 41 years, said. “That is why I knew he would make a great fit for The SUN and Pagosa Springs.”
To be clear, O’Rourke promises to hired all current SUN employees. Furthermore, the SUN will continue to publish every Thursday. O’Rourke is committed to print media and pointed out that they are the owner of the last operating printing press in the area.
O’Rourke Media Group says they operate in 28 markets within 8 different states. In total, the company offers 41 publications and local websites. Furthermore. the media organization says The Sun is their 13th acquisition since December 18, 2018.
Readers are optimistic that The SUN will continue. On the paper’s Facebook page, reader Patti Carter says “the important thing is Pagosa Sun lives to continue publishing a paper. So many communities are loosing their papers.”
Another reader, Heide Schweitzer, says “thanks for years of my favorite newspaper.” Schweitzer continues to read The SUN, even after moving away from Pagosa.
