The Los Angeles County Sheriffs responded to a roll-over collision which injured golfer Tiger Woods. His agent, Mark Steinberg tells Golf Digest that the golfer is “currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support.” Further, Steinberg says Woods sustained “multiple” leg injuries. He is undergoing leg surgery.
Tiger Woods’ team posted a message on Twitter early Wednesday morning. They report that Woods “suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery” at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Woods is currently “awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room” according to the statement.
Los Angeles Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the airbags deployed in the Genesis SUV that Woods was driving. The front of the vehicle was destroyed by the rest held up in the crash, protecting Woods.
There was no sign of Woods being impaired, according to the Sheriff. Woods crossed two incoming lanes and rolled several times shortly before 7:15 AM this morning.
Woods was in the Los Angeles area this past weekend as the host of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club. He was filming a TV show Monday and Tuesday for GOLF TV.
The Sheriffs responded at 7:12 AM this morning to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. A vehicle driven by Tiger Woods sustained “major damage”.
The golfer was extricated using the “jaws of life” by LA County firefighters and paramedics.
Investigation is underway, according to the LA County Sheriff’s department.
