Laika Beats Expectations as Street Fighter Takes a Hit
Laika’s stop-motion feature Wildwood debuted at #3 with $11.6 million across 2,942 screens. Initially projected to land under $10 million, strong reviews and dedicated family/animation audiences helped it beat tracking expectations.
On the flip side, last weekend’s champion, Paramount’s video game adaptation Street Fighter, suffered a sharp -72.1% second-weekend drop. Falling to #4 with $8.6 million, its domestic total now sits just shy of $47 million.
Rounding out the top five debuts was Black Bear’s horror/thriller entry Wicker, taking in $5.75 million from 1,471 venues.
