The matchup is set for New Year Eve’s Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy shared the team selections in a video today. Portnoy appeared with a series of caps displayed in front of him. One by one, teams and caps were eliminated. Central Michigan and Boise State will play in the first ever Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. Furthermore, the game will take place at 2pm/ET on December 31, 2021. The game will be streamed online by Barstool Sports.
The Bowl, played in Tucson, is a match-up of bowl-eligible teams from the Mountain West Conference and the Mid-American Conference. Tickets are available to purchase. Furthermore, tickets are very reasonably priced from $25.
Portnoy has said that “bowl games will never be the same” with Barstool’s entry into the space. For example, Creed lead singer Scott Stapp appeared in today’s video, projected behind the Barstool founder. Stapp will be performing at the bowl game.
In addition, there is a full line-up of events in Arizona leading up to the game. That includes a Pub Crawl on December 29, a golf event and live music.
Central Michigan and Boise State have met five times with CMU holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. The Broncos are 7-5 this season, including 5-3 in the Mountain West. CMU is 8-4 and finished 6-2 in the Mid-American Conference.
The bowl marks the continuing evolution of the Barstool Sports. The sports publisher recently launched the Barstool Sports Channel on SLING TV. Barstool founder Portnoy has made his intentions clear earlier this year when he said “we are getting into the live sports broadcast game.”
