Google’s first bricks and mortar store in Washington, DC opens today. The tech giant chose the city’s busy Georgetown retail district as home to the newest Google Store. The Mountain View, CA based company describes their retail locations as “the best of Google, in real life.” This includes the latest Pixel smartphones, tablets, watches, earbuds and smart home devices.
M Street is the vibrant, historic main artery of Georgetown, widely known as Washington, D.C.’s premier destination for high-end shopping, dining, and nightlife. It runs east-west through the heart of the neighborhood, connecting Georgetown to Foggy Bottom and Downtown D.C. on one side and the Key Bridge to Virginia on the other. Its picturesque, brick-paved sidewalks and preserved 18th and 19th-century architecture create a unique atmosphere that blends historic charm with modern energy.
Apple has their Georgetown store steps away from Google’s new storefront. Google’s new space has previously been home to a variety of clothing brands. Aerie was the most recent occupant pre-Google.
Google Brings a Waymo
During Thursday night’s exclusive preview event, Google parked a Waymo out front on M Street. Google’s corporate sibling, Waymo, shares a common corporate parent in Alphabet. Furthermore, Waymo plans to start operating within Washington, DC in 2026. Drivers are currently testing the autonomous electric vehicles in DC.

More Than a Store
Google will offer free monthly events, including photo and product workshops, concerts and panel discussions at the Georgetown store. A cozy area was seen where talks could be given.
One upcoming event on December 14 is a “Grow with Google Workshop”. The search giant describes the session as learning “how Google Search works and the ways people might find your business online. In this workshop, an expert will walk you through the latest Google tools and search engine optimization strategies for building your online presence and engaging more customers on Google.”
