The YEEZY Gap website started a countdown clock on Monday, February 21. Late this morning, a 24 hour clock started ticking down. To be clear, something big is happening February 22 for the Kayne West-GAP collaboration.
As we go to press mid-day Monday, there is no official word from Ye. However, speculation is rampant among YEEZY GAP enthusiasts. Instagram account @yeezyxgap asks for fans best guess. One popular opinion is we’ll see the first fruit borne of the YEEZY GAP x Balenciaga project. The “Yeezy Gap engineered by Balenciaga” collaboration was announced January 7. Yet, no product announcements at that time.
Balenciaga collaboration
We know Demna, creative director of Balenciaga, collaborated on Ye’s Donda listening events in Atlanta and Chicago last year. The next such live event, the “Donda Experience”, is set for tomorrow in Miami. However, a Gap spokeswoman told The New York Times last month that “the first examples of whatever it is would be unveiled in June.” Furthermore, Ye promises to combine music art and fashion as part of tomorrow’s release.
Other fans just want their already ordered YEEZY GAP clothing delivered. Instagram user “Jack.Hamilton1” said “hopefully shipping my hoodie from the last drop”. Others predict a reveal of additional hoodie colors.
Where it all started
The YEEZY GAP Round Jacket was the first item launched, last June. While pre-orders opened last Summer, the first examples were not shipped until mid-Fall.
In the initial announcement of the partnership on June 26, 2020, Gap said:
Kanye West, a multi-industry creative entrepreneur, is poised to disrupt retail by bringing his YEEZY brand to millions of customers around the world through a partnership announced today with the iconic and globally recognized Gap brand. The YEEZY Gap line is expected to appear in Gap stores and Gap.com in 2021.

- Mr. West showed the advantages of his Stem Player. Users can play 4 different elements of a music track. Specifically, vocals, drums, bass and music.
- Ye fired Yeezy General Manage Laurence Chandler via Instagram on Saturday. Mr. West said “I would like to politely announce that Laurence Chandler no longer works for me. This is one of sharpest most competent people I’ve ever met but he spends too much money on projects and I’m more frugal now.”
- Gap Inc. stock rose +0.07% on Friday. Overall, Friday was a “grim” trading day, so Gap outperformed the S&P 500 and Dow Jones.
