From Captain Marvel to Controller Queen: Brie Larson Opens Up About Her Lifelong Love for Nintendo at Press Event

In addition to being Captain Marvel, Brie Larson has another important job. The Academy Award winner is an official Nintendo ambassador. Furthermore, Larson was recently at the center of a press event for Nintendo’s latest Princess Peach game. The event, held the week of February 11, 2024, was all about Princess Peach: Showtime! But it also was about the Marvel star’s love of Nintendo.

Brie played through a demo of Princess Peach: Showtime!

“There was a lot that surprised me about the game in particular, the transformations,” Larson told ELLE.com after she played through the demo that involved trying five of Peach’s transformations (swordfighter, cowgirl, pastry chef, ninja, and figure skater). “I didn’t know exactly how that was gonna play out in the game.”

Brie loves Princess Peach and Nintendo

Larson told ELLE.com that she grew up with Peach: “I mean, the first Nintendo console, those are some of my earliest memories.”

“Well, she was always this beautiful vision in the games and also then with more time whether it was like Mario Party or Mario Kart, you could see that she was just able to keep up with everybody else. And so I always just had such an affinity. She was the character that we fought over, me and my sister.”

Gameplay Tips from Brie Larson

Larson shared her main tip: allow yourself to get immersed in the gameplay. Furthermore, the “Lessons in Chemistry” star says timing is important.

What Other Games is Brie Playing?

Larson tells ELLE.com she is playing:

  • WarioWare: Move It!
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Brie told IGN.com, “”I’m really taking my time, I’m not trying to blast through it,” she says of Tears of the Kingdom. “I’m putting a lot of time into it because I just love it so much.”

She doesn’t want to talk about Animal Crossing– she said she needs to start her island over. Furthermore, she is concerned “there’s gonna be a lot of like, passive aggressive neighbors on my island.” Apparently, the ELLE.com writer played Animal Crossing with Brie in the past.

However, the “Scott Pilgrim” star told IGN.com that she’s long been a fan of Animal Crossing. The first release of the game on Nintendo’s GameCube created “a lot of desire and competitiveness” with her sister.

No mention of Fortnite, which she talked about playing in 2021.
